The World Famous Mountains Association had its third annual conference in the USA for the first time. The first two conferences, held in China, attracted over 150 attendees.The conference was held at the World Forestry Center in Portland’s Washington Park and in Mt Hood National Forest. It featured keynote addresses, panels, presentations and workshops focused on such topics as natural resource protection, sustainable tourism, environmental education, and the conservation of our world’s cultural legacy. The first symposium about the World Famous Mountains Association in Ceara was held by the Municipality of Quixada in conjunction with the State Government, through the Secretariat of Cities. The event aimed to bring together students, researchers, government technicians and officials, community leaders and non-governmental organization - NGO, to discuss projects and sustainable development solutions for these splendid natural monuments.
The Secretary of State of the Cities, Camilo Santana, the Mayor, Romulo Carneiro, the World Famous Mountains Association Deputy Secretary for South America, Dr. Monica Amorim, the architect and researcher, Dr. Romeo Duarte, and the Federal Education Institute in Ceara - IFCE teacher, Joselito Bright attended the opening ceremony.
